'Sorry about all that,' Iris McKenna said to Farah, pushing off the wet and tattered remains of her dress, and straightening back up. She extended a hand to Farah, doing nothing to hide her now completely naked body.

'Iris McKenna, a pleasure to meet you, though I would have preferred the situation hadn't been so animated. You are from the Artemis, I presume, sent here to solve the crisis that distressed Victor so?'

'You… you killed him,' Farah stammered and the other women in the hallway giggled.

Iris laughed, her freckled breasts heaving as she did. 'Oh hardly. We don't believe in capital punishment on Juxor. Banishment, however, is perfectly just.'

'So you banished him to a rocky coast twenty meters below?'

Iris smiled and put an arm around Farah's shoulder. 'Come dear, observe.' Iris led Farah over to the window. Down below, Victor was just pulling himself out of the ocean onto a craggy shore. Armed guards awaited him and loaded him onto a ship that after a moment took off and headed for the spaceport.

'It was fortuitous, really, that he was so close to a Portal, or else the show would have gone on far longer. I'm glad you didn't have to see all that.'

'What on Earth-4 are you talking about? A show? What I saw bordered on religious insanity. Or will saying such things get me thrown from the Portal too? And put some damn clothes on! What's wrong with you?'

'Officer Relkor,’ Iris read the name on Farah's jumpsuit, 'an unsightly name on an unsightly garment. A name given to you by a man, no doubt. Come with me, it has been so long since we've been visited by the Institute. A decade, it seems. Perhaps I can dispel any notions you might have about our planet, and get back to the far more important task of stopping those creatures that are hurting men like poor Victor's friends. Which reminds me: Celia, look into Victor's story. If it's true, pay off the mother's debt and get dear Victor on a ship back to Earth-2. Tell him we'll pay for it if he agrees to the operation. Now, for the third time, come, dear, I have much to show you. Judging by the grass stains on your hideous uniform you are the botanist, and I very much doubt your particular expertise is needed at the moment. Let your men work on our problem while I convince you to leave the rest of our world alone, and get you into something warm.'

Farah's blood boiled at the idea of who her men were right now. She looked at the Portal. Yes, perhaps it would be a punishment fitting for those two knuckleheads if they could solve the problem of the planet that they had caused in the first place. She acquiesced, and let the naked woman lead her away from the Portal. This McKenna had the right of it. Farah didn't know what she could do about flesh-eating crabs. Better to distance herself from that disaster, and perhaps make it known who'd really caused it.
